Are we ready for Day Zero ?
Day Zero: The day when a city’s taps dry out and people have to stand in line to collect a daily quota of water.
In recent years’ summers, this has been a situation in many of the India’s major cities; facing an acute, unprecedented shortage of drinking water. Many big cities, including the national capital Delhi, are likely to run out of groundwater by few years, according to NITI Aayog’s recent assessment. Adding to the woes is the gloomy prediction that by 2030, the overall demand for water in India will double. “Forty per cent of the population would have no access to drinking water by 2030,” the report warns.
According to the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, among the most parched states are Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. Global warming, over-exploitation of water resources and human errors are the reasons India is staring at a Day Zero scenario.
For water conservation to work community-driven actions are so much essential. Almost half of the country’s industrial wastewater undergoes treatment, thanks to the government’s ‘zero liquid discharge’ policy. Compared to that, Only a quarter of India’s domestic wastewater is currently recycled or treated.
General water purifiers wastes more water than required for the filtration as about three times of the water is thrown or wasted than getting purified. Which means to purify 1 glass of water up to 2.5 glasses of water is wasted. The discharge water rejected by traditional water purifiers is a no-go zone. This wastewater contains high contents of total dissolved solids (TDS) which makes the water undrinkable.
If you have installed a water purifier system at home, office, or elsewhere, we recommend storing the discharge in a bucket. You can then re-use it in some simple ways to reduce the amount of wastage like: Mopping/ Cleaning, Washing Cars & other vehicles, Watering in Garden, Dish Washing, Toilet Flushing, Bathing Pets, Pre-Rinsing Laundry etc.
Dr. Alkaine Puro have always believed in minimizing this water wastage across our range of alkaline water purifiers. As it is our endeavour to reduce this wastage of water, we can proudly say that our water purifiers are equipped with state of the art “Zero Water Wastage” technology. These water purifiers can save up to 80 glasses of water daily*. This means a saving of up to 29,200 glasses of water in a year !
